Coastal, cool-climate Edna Valley

Established in 1982, the 35 square mile Edna Valley AVA sits just 5 minles from the Pacific Ocean on California’s Central Coast. With strong maritime influence it is an ideal growing region for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, both of which love cool nights and ocean breezes. It has one of the longest growing seasons in the world; bud break typically occurs in February, with harvest in October. This slow ripening is especially favorable for the noble Chardonnay grape, which develops great nuances of flavor while retaining its elegant nature. The cool nights help protect the thin-skinned Pinot Noir grape, retaining acidity that balances the ripe fruit flavors.
